Unlikely Rumor Claims Samsung Might Launch Windows 10 Version of Galaxy S8

Before anything, you got to keep in mind that this is just a rumor, and judging from the existing evidence, it's a fake one, even though, as we'll explain in this article, it could make sense for Samsung to launch a Windows 10 Mobile device.

First and foremost, the rumor. Information posted on Chinese forum ITHome indicates that Samsung could be planning a high-end phone running Windows 10 Mobile, and naturally, the first thing that comes to everyone's mind is a Windows version of the recently-launched Galaxy S8.

Details are missing at this point, but speculation has it that Samsung is already working on the device and could join Microsoft's Build developer conference next month to unveil it.

On the other hand, a screenshot that's posted in the same thread claims to show system and device information for this new Samsung model, which is rumored to come with 6GB RAM, if these details are correct. And yet, the most obvious sign that this screenshot is fake Is the Windows 10 Mobile version that it's running, namely Windows 10 1704, whereas the Creators Update is 1703.

Why it makes sense

While we have no doubt this is fake speculation, it could actually make sense for Samsung to launch a Windows 10 Mobile device, especially given the partnership the South Koreans recently signed with Microsoft to have the high-end Galaxy S8 sold in Microsoft stores in the United States.

In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is powered by the Snapdragon 835, a processor that can easily run Windows 10 on ARM, which is Microsoft's latest project with Qualcomm to bring the full version of its operating system on ARM chips.

Launching a Windows phone wouldn't be a new thing for Samsung, though given the current market share of the platform, Samsung probably doesn't see any good reason for investing into such a product, other than a partnership with Microsoft.

For now, it's hard to believe that this rumor is accurate, so take everything with a healthy pinch of salt until more information becomes available.
