Following the announcement by Microsoft that it will only be supporting an even smaller amount of Windows 10 Mobile devices with the Creators Update, the company has now taken steps to kill one of the official upgrade paths from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile.

The Upgrade Advisor app, that was used to easily upgrade from the older Windows Phone OS, is no longer available. While it is possible to download the app via the Store, it won't actually allow the device to be upgraded, instead showing a message that reads:

The Windows 10 upgrade isn't available for your phone right now. We're trying to determine if your phone can support Windows 10.

It's important to note that, this message, according to Neowin, displays even on supported devices, such as the Lumia 640 and 640XL. Additionally, the Windows Device Recovery Tool hasn't received the new images, making that a no-go for upgrading too.

It is possible to use the Windows Insider Program for now, and set it to Production ring, however, as we know, that option isn't expected to last much longer either, as Microsoft dwindles the number of devices it is willing to support for its mobile operating system.
