Facebook is going to end its Messenger app service by the end of March for Windows Phone 8.1 and lesser. Recently we have also seen Skype also stopped it service to Windows Phone 8.1, and we can expect many other apps to stop its service in the coming days. Facebook has already started sending emails to users of its Messenger app on Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 regarding the same.
As we know, the market share of Windows Phone had gone down to less than one percent around the world in a year, and Microsoft should have some plans to improve the number. Many budget-friendly Windows Phones in the market run on Windows Phone 8.1 OS or lesser and will not be upgraded to Windows Phone 10.
Emails that were received by the users thanked them for choosing to use Messenger app and also stated that they regret to inform that since the end of March, the Messenger app version that they have been using is no longer supported and they cannot send and receive messages. To continue to send and receive messages from Facebook on your phone, the user needs to update their Facebook app to the latest version. This will be bad news for the users as they either have to upgrade to the later versions of Windows or switch to alternative devices.
Recently we have seen Facebook bringing new features that include Instagram-like stories and also got a Reactions and Mentions feature that lets its users reply to individual messages with emotions. The emotions or reactions can be selected accordingly from the given options, and you also have the option of dislike emotion in the messenger. It will also let its users tag friends in any conversations.
