WhatsApp India Users Set a New Record on New Year's Eve: A whopping 14 billion messages have been sent on WhatsApp in India on the New Year's eve. Besides using the other platforms and ways of sending the greeting messages, Indian people have opted to use this instant messaging platform for sending their greetings. The data of the network usage has been shared by WhatsApp India that revealed 14 Billion messages being sent on 31st of December alone and is an all time high from the country.

As the telecom operators charge a premium on special occasions like Diwali and New Year even though the customers have an active SMS plan, the WhatsApp India and other major messaging platforms in the country have been gaining popularity. People take it as the best alternative for sending messages and media as these platforms are available for free to the users.
The report on WhatsApp India messages on New Year's eve revealed that the overall traffic on the last day of 2016 was much higher than the 8 billion messages which were recorded on the day of Diwali last year, which was a record then. Of the messages and greetings sent by using this instant messaging app on 31st December, 32% of them were in the form of photos, GIFs, videos and voice messages.
Figures reveal that about 3.1 Billion images, 700 million GIFs and 610 million videos were sent on that day by using WhatsApp India network. The feature of sharing the GIFs on WhatsApp has been recently rolled out in the platform. This feature has been introduced for iPhones back in November, while it was run in Android devices from December.
An interesting point is that the social messenger has stopped working for the older versions of the Android, iOS, and Windows Operating Systems on 31st of December. All those devices that run on Android 2.2 or lower, iOS 6 or lower, and Windows Phone 7 are no more supported by the app.
