Snapdragon 820 Powered Windows Phones May Launch Worldwide

That would be quite a moment for fans of Windows phones located around the globe! There are signs that flagship Windows 10 Mobile devices might arrive in new markets.

Even though Microsoft did not launch a new flagship Windows phone this year, partners like HP and Alcatel came to the rescue with high-end devices in the form of the Elite x3 and IDOL 4S respectively, which are currently the two most powerful Windows powered handsets on the market.

Unfortunately, their availability is very limited right now.

The Alcatel IDOL 4S, for example, is exclusive to T-Mobile in the United States, meaning European buyers and customers from other regions are out of luck if they want to get their hands on this phone.

Likewise, the HP Elite x3 is also not available worldwide.

But interestingly, Microsoft updated its Windows Device Recovery Tool today, adding support for a few new devices in the process. This is the first update for the software since September, and as this changelog reveals, a carrier variant of the Elite x3 is listed, along with an unlocked IDOL 4S:

  • Support for Lenovo Softbank 503LV and Zebra TC700J mobile devices.
  • Added new device for HP Elite x3 Telstra and Alcatel IDOL 4S devices.
  • Update the MCJ logo.
  • Added accessibility support for Narrator.
  • Other minor enhancements and bug fixes.
  • Hints that the HP device is headed to Australia, while Alcatel may also bring its flagship to store shelves in international markets.

With the demise of the Lumia brand now imminent, there is no reason not to do so.

There is a demand for these two flagship devices worldwide, and not just from fans of the platform. A lot of professional workers and power users want to get their hands on these flagship Windows phones, so the sooner they come to other markets, the better.

Let's just hope this is indeed what both companies are planning.
