There’s a New High-End Windows 10 Mobile in Town, But Do You Care?

Alcatel Idol 4s is the latest Windows phone in the town and it does come with slight variations in features as opposed to the one showcased at the MWC this year. The Windows variant looks similar to the Android sibling and also comes with a box that will transform into a VR headset. The Continuum will allow users to connect the smartphone to an external display and other peripherals including mouse and keyboard.

The Idol 4S comes equipped with a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass and a Dragontrail glass protection. Powering the device is a Quad Core Snapdragon 820 paired with a 4GB RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU. On the storage front, the device offers 64GB of Internal memory along with a microSD card slot that can further accommodate up to 128GB. The phone also comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back.

Camera setup on the Idol 4s includes a 21-Megapixel primary Sony IMX320 sensor with dual-tone LED flash. The secondary camera shapes up in the form of an 8-Megapixel sensor and also comes bundled with a LED flash. Things also seem to be well taken care of on the connectivity front as the Idol 4s features 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.1, USB Type-C and GPS. Furthermore, the device is backed by a 3000mAh battery and comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

Now coming to the Billion Dollar question, Do you Care? Well, we do understand that it is a high-end Windows 10 Mobile device that comes with equally good hardware but the software has recently been its Achilles heels. With several developers opting out of Windows Mobile ecosystem citing the low population of Windows users and the lesser revenue things just don't get better. Last time we checked Windows commanded a market share of just 1-percent and this just reduces the incentives for the manufacturing partners to opt for Windows 10 Mobile. Also, I have been seeing Windows loyalists ditch the Windows 10 Mobile due to the various constraints including the jinxed app ecosystem.

That said those interested in Alcatel Idol 4s can choose between Gold and Black colors. The device will be available in U.S starting from 10th of  November and is priced at $469.99.
