Reports have started to emerge that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is already working on its smartphone called Microsoft Surface Phone. The phone will basically be a smaller device when compared to the Surface line. But with the added ability of making calls, the phone might cause a stir amongst current smartphone giants such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (OTCMKTS:SSNLF). The phone is rumored to hit the shelves in April, 2017.
The phone would likely run on Microsoft's own Windows 10 OS. The phone would come in three variants, according to the class of audience which the company wants to target. It is said that the phone will have a "consumer model", a "business edition", and an "enthusiast" variant. The enthusiast iteration of the smartphone is said to be the most premium and high-tech version of the Surface Phone.
The phone will feature storage options from 64GB to 128 GB and backed with 4GB to 6GB RAM according to the various models which will be introduced. The phone will also come with a 20MP back camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. The Carl Zeiss lenses have been previously used in Windows phones and is said to capture better pictures and videos. Users are hoping the phone comes equipped with the Qualcomm, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) Snapdragon 830 chipset, due to be introduced in Q1, 2017. The phone might also feature a USC Type C port.
The phone might also come equipped with a fingerprint sensor, which is a necessity in flagship devices. The fingerprint is rumored to be on the display of the phone, rather than on a bezel. The information comes after looking at various patent filings from the company for the unique type of sensor. It is also rumored that the phone will be compatible with Win32 apps. If this rumor is true, the phone will have a competitive edge over iOS and Android devices.
The only downside to Windows phones in the past have been that the users weren't satisfied with the OS on the devices. The OS was rather too complex for users and the limited applications available to users was also something of a problem.
