If you're a long-time Windows Phone user, you probably know that WhatsApp is one of the companies that are continuously improving their app on Microsoft's mobile platform with new options, but there was at least one feature that was missing when compared with the Android and iOS siblings.
Till today for Windows Phone users there is no way to take backup and store it anywhere on cloud and they can't even restore it.
Cloud backup for messages and data was offered on iOS and Android already, but for some reason, it was missing from the Windows Phone version, which didn't make any sense at all given the fact that WhatsApp was so keen on getting its app right.
The latest beta version of WhatsApp, named 2.16.204 is being tested before the ultimate release. WhatsApp previously backed up its data on your phone locally. Here, you can adjust the frequency of backup like daily, weekly and monthly.
WhatsApp Beta is now allowing the users to backup all the data on a monthly, weekly, and daily basis. Additionally, if you don't want WhatsApp to start the backup process while you are using cellular data, you can configure it to only start backups when you are using Wi-Fi. I've read so many reviews in Windows Store about backup data on OneDrive.
The next target of WhatsApp would be cross platform backup and restore system.
Though it is a little troublesome if you wish to move from one platform to another, for example from Android to iPhone, but otherwise, such kind of an implementation of different backup clients for different platforms makes sense.
If you happen to be part of the beta program for WhatsApp's Windows Phone app, you can enable OneDrive backups by heading over to Settings Chat and Security Backup. The Windows Phone users are looking forward to the moment when the update will be available to the public.
