Yes you heard it right, Microsoft's Cortana assistant is now available for everyone who has iPhone and Android phones after having undergone a brief beta testing period in the past.
Just a few days ago, Microsoft co-founder Steve Ballmer said at the company's annual shareholder meeting that Windows 10 universal apps strategy won't work.
For instance, you can book a ride using your PC and attend to calls from the driver via smartphone. It will also reach into Microsoft's larger software platform, potentially integrating widgets into the notification area. The service has since evolved and now supports Windows 10 desktop computers, the latest being iOS and Android platforms. Cortana's feature set will be different on each platform. Not only that, the thing with Cortana is that, the more you let her help you out, the more she learns about your needs, thus, the more useful she becomes. Now both versions have been released, with Cortana available in the App Store and in the Google Play Store, at least for United States users.
To be clear, Uber is now a universal Windows app. Uber may have worked on Windows Phone before, but now with Windows 10, the app works on smartphones, tablets, and PCs.
Well, as promised, Microsoft has released Cortana for Android and iOS finally.
The post mentioned that you could set location-based reminders to have it pop-up on your smartphone when you arrive at a specific location. This is a cost-free app and should be downloaded by anybody looking for driving assistance. As for Cyanogen OS-powered One Plus One Android phone, Cortana will be available later this month. The iOS version can't be opened via the usual "Hey Cortana" voice command, while the Android version can, but only from the home screen. According to Ars Technica, the app basically looks alike on Windows 10 Mobile, Windows 10, iOS and Android.
Windows 10's next major update, code-named "Redstone", promises a smarter Cortana that can work within Office applications. A code will then be sent to your phone number which you can enter into the desktop app later on. Cortana can be invoked by just saying "hey Cortana".
