Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows is seemingly everyone's go-to operating system in the world of computers, but the same cannot be said about its mobile division. However, the company looks to change that as it prepares to launch its Windows 10 Mobile platform. Microsoft is reported to be launching two new flagship Lumia smartphones at its October 6 event in New York, and a budget Windows phone is also believed to be on the cards.
Microsoft is long rumored to have been focusing on its upcoming Lumia 950 and 950XL smartphones; however, recent reports indicate that the company is also planning to launch a cheaper Lumia device to please the tight-pocketed fans.
The alleged Microsoft Lumia 550 surfaced on a Swiss store website and could possibly become the first in the 5-series of Lumia smartphones to support LTE functionality. Earlier this year, reports surfaced on Zauba and GFXBench regarding a 4.7-inch Windows phone; this time around, the leaks provide more information on the specs of the device.
The rumored Microsoft Lumia 550 is said to feature a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, together with 8GB of internal memory. The device is expected to be launched in two variants: one which runs on a single SIM card, and the other that is believed to incorporate dual-SIM functionality.
The Lumia 550 is likely to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 210 chipset alongside 1GB RAM. The smartphone is also tipped to feature a 5MP rear camera, together with a 1.2MP front shooter. These specs are merely speculation so far, since Microsoft is yet to confirm the existence of a Lumia 550 smartphone.
If Microsoft does launch the cheap-end Lumia 550 smartphone this October, then don't be surprised if the device comes running on Windows 10 Mobile right out of the box. The company is predicted to unleash a plethora of Windows 10 hardware which includes the Lumia flagship smartphones, a new wearable believed to be the Microsoft Band 2, and the long-awaited Microsoft Surface Pro 4. We will cover more news regarding Microsoft's October 6 event, so stay tuned.
