Apple has finally unveiled its new iPhone range for consumers and it has yet again created some stir in the market. While the online community will be buzzing with Apple's new releases, this news will especially cater to the Windows OS users who are still using their Windows phones and not moving on to another smartphone.
The good news though, Windows 10 Mobile build 15250 has now been made available for users as part of the Windows Insider program, and it now brings three new features. And this is exciting as previous updates came with only bug fixes and nothing more.
So this is quite something for users who just don't want to give up on their Windows phones yet.
That being said, let's talk about the new build 15250. We will start with the new features as this is quite exciting for users in the Windows phone community. Well, this does not happen often.
So, Microsoft has introduced two-factor authentication for Windows 10 Mobile. With this security feature, it will enable users to setup a more complex authentication unlock mechanism and prevent any misuse of the device or any apps.Moreover, enterprises will be able to add extra security layer via an MDM policy. In this case, after providing the passwords, users may have to complete one extra step to unlock the phone. For example, it may be required while activating a companion device such as an NFC tag or others.
The two-factor authentication feature is further supported with more AppLocker improvements based on the customer feedback. Users will now receive warning prompts for apps blocked by in-place policies.
"We've improved the UX and updated the MDM SyncML scripts associated with the policies. Application restrictions can be configured by either the ApplicationManagement CSP or AppLocker CSP," the company said.
The new build also brings VPN improvements, like refinements to proxy for UWP VPN profile, MMS usage with VPN connection, IKEv2 Sleep and Power tweaks, and reliability enhancements. So that is it for the updates in the new build 15250.
Unfortunately, these new features seem to be more focused on the enterprise. Users would want to see Windows 10 Mobile evolve with more consumer-oriented features and maybe this would be a better strategy. In any case, with this new rollout, we clearly see where Microsoft is heading with its mobile operating system.
