Microsoft may not be everyone's number one choice when it comes to smartphones. However, with the non-stop mention of the Surface Phone in every tech website, it's almost certain that the company is bound to release something big for the smartphone market. The most recent leak about the alleged Surface Phone is actually quite interesting. If the spotted patent is indeed for the awaited Windows phone, it will practically be the first mainstream 2 in 1 foldable smartphone.
Microsoft Is Granted A New Patent
As per Phone Arena, Microsoft has been granted a patent that describes a foldable device. Practically, this gadget can turn from a tablet into a smartphone by means of a flexible hinge structure. Of course, patents don't always end up getting materialized and this new patent isn't exactly confirmed to belong to the supposed Surface Phone. However, this concept doesn't seem to resemble any expected Microsoft device aside from the widely talked about Surface Phone.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has already mentioned that their next smartphone will still be focused on a specific set of audience and not on what the trend is all about, as per a Forbes report. With a statement like this, Windows mobile fans can easily assume that Microsoft's next smartphone will still be business-oriented and as far as the patent design is concerned, it looks like this phone is very much in line with the company's plans. If the patent indeed belongs to the Surface Phone, it's clearly a perfect phone for people from the business sect.
Microsoft Surface Phone Rumors
Right now, there have already been tens or hundreds of rumors made about the Surface Phone. However, the most consistent ones include having an all-display frontal, at least 6 GB RAM, Surface Pen integration and Continuum support. As for the processor, the Surface Phone could come with a Snapdragon 835 processor, although earlier rumors suggest the use of Kirby lake processors. Needless to say, Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipsets seem more appropriate for mobile phones.
So far, these are the only notable rumors about the Surface Phone. Hopefully, Microsoft can finally confirm whether or not this phone is coming in this year. The company hasn't released a Microsoft-branded phone last year, so fans hope to see a new Windows mobile coming out of Microsoft's doors this 2017.
