Microsoft Mobiles has been the perfect recipe for a disaster. Microsoft, one of the most successful names in the planet when it comes to the software and OS industry, dared to do the different, and stepped foot in the hardware markets. The company even took over Nokia Mobiles business to take this one step forward. However, their hardware ventures were doomed right from day-1 as things were indeed looking bad for the company. The hardware markets rejected them, but Microsoft did not give up and came out with the Windows 10 Mobile OS. The company has now taken things one step forward, as it released the Windows 10 Mobile OS update to most of the users of the older Nokia Lumia Windows Phone devices in the month of March.
In the past, the update was available only for the users of the Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, Lumia 550 and Lumia 650. However, it has now reached millions of more devices and has given the OS a strength in numbers.
The Windows 10 Mobile OS update came out for the users of many older Nokia Lumia phones such as Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, and the MCJ Madosma Q501 devices.
There has been quite a controversy over this selective release as the users of other popular devices such as the Lumia 520, Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1320 are upset that their devices have not received this update. Microsoft has explained why this selective release was made in their blog, saying:
"This list includes a limited set of Windows Phone 8.1 devices and does not include some devices that are currently running Windows 10 Mobile in the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program. As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience. Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience," the company said.
