Today is the day that Microsoft discontinues all support for the loathed Windows 8 operating system, and stops issuing security patches for Internet Explorer versions 8, 9, and 10.
Support for Windows 8 will also end on Tuesday, and users are encouraged to switch to a new operating system for security reasons. Anyone taking advantage of that offer will, as with upgrades from any other supported Windows release, receive all updates for the full Windows 10 lifecycle.
Windows 8 figures have gone into a steeper decline since Windows 10 came out, which is very hard to avoid, as holdouts sidestep Windows 8.1 altogether.
Well, enterprise users already have the update switched off, because Microsoft knows not to pester those people, but for everyday users like you and me, the answer is sadly not 100% cut and dried.
