Windows 10 major update starts rolling out with Cortana in India

Microsoft today started rolling the first major update to Windows 10. The update brings Cortana digital assistant to PCs and tablets in India and comes with a slew of improvements.

As announced last week, the Windows 10 major update is claimed to deliver an improved computing experience with nearly 30 percent faster boot time than Windows 7. This is the first Windows 10 update that allows you to activate the new operating system right through a genuine product key of Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. Also, it brings Cortana to a list of new countries including India, Australia and Canada with customised features and experiences for each single region.

"With this update, there are improvements in all aspects of the platform and experience, including thousands of partners updating their device drivers and applications for great Windows 10 compatibility," Microsoft's Terry Myerson said in a blog post.

Cortana on Windows 10 comes with Indian voice to give a localise feel to all PC and tablet users in the country. In addition, there is an option to use voice commands on Cortana to book tickets via BookMyShow or to take a selfie.

For developed regions in the US, Cortana now works with stylus to let you scribble a note in the Cortana Notebook and also comes with Uber integration to let you book or track an Uber cab using your own voice. The software giant has also provided an updated Microsoft Edge browser within the updated Windows 10 package that offers improved performance and security in addition to an intuitive tab preview feature. Likewise, there is a sync feature to let you sync data directly from your Reading List and Favourites.

Microsoft has provided Skype apps, namely Messaging, Phone and Skype Video, within the new Windows 10 update to deliver some new communication solutions. Further, there is an option to find Windows 10 device in case of lost or stolen by activating 'find my device' feature.

You can download and install the Windows 10 update on your compatible system by going to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Check Update and Install.

Apart from its existence on PCs and tablets, Microsoft has also announced the release of Windows 10 on Xbox One game console. The company is also in development to soon release a similar update for Windows Phone running devices.
